Parenthood as a cultural worker

This webinar is hosted by Cassie Raine - actor, co-founder and joint CEO of Parents and Carers in Performing Arts (PiPA). PiPA works strategically with a collaborative network of organisations, industry bodies and unions across Music, Theatre, Dance and Opera, promoting best practice employment and support for parents and carers in the industry. Parents and carers working in music face significant challenges to career progression due to their caring responsibilities.

A culture of long, late hours, unpredictable working patterns and touring can become an insurmountable barrier to people struggling to meet work and family commitments. Women are statistically more likely to be the primary carer and therefore make career sacrifices. PiPA research has identified that the situation for carers and parents has been exacerbated by the pandemic and that women are 50% more likely than men to rethink their futures in the industry as a result. Cassie discusses recent findings from the Bittersweet Symphony report and data driven solutions currently happening as part of PiPA’s work, how they can be adopted and adapted by Music organisations of different scales and remits, as well as the role of the individual.

The webinar is in english.
